Omg, we had a crazy holiday weekend here in Missouri...started off with getting sick. So I was down Friday with a head cold, but I managed to go clothes shopping for my new job! I'm so excited that I start work in a few days. I didn't want to be one of those graduates that is stuck looking for a job a year later.
So this weekend a few storms came in. Where we are located the tornadoes seem to go around us. I think it is the way the land is, pretty hilly. But we had some intense moments with high winds and great thunder and lighting. Yesterday, I needed to stock up on pet food. So I loaded up the dogs and kids in the SUV on a break with the storm. It was just drizzling when we left our home and was heading over to Grandma's to drop off the dogs. Rain started coming down and lightning picked back up so fierce that it was striking down all around us and the thunder was shaking the SUV. I have drove through some hairy storms before and nothing is worse than high winds. So as much as it was thundering; I felt safe because I wasn't moving against wind.
The girls on the other hand were excited and scared at the same time. And the dogs were just looking around curiously and going for the ride. So we were doing fine since it was just a 10 minutes drive, but the rain became a down pour and flash flooding was happening quickly. The roads were filling up quickly before our eyes with flooding water. So trying to make the ride less scary for the girls...I flew through the big puddles and water gushed up and sprayed all over the car. They were wide eyes, than thought that was the coolest thing so they yelled for more water sprays. Finally we arrived at Grandma's house and never saw 2 kids and 2 dogs run so fast in a house before. :D
Today, I spent my time trying to gain my energy back from this cold. The girls played quietly. I spent the afternoon visiting Grandma...watching the birds on her porch eating their fill of bird seeds from the feeders. Than I started looking for my camera. It was missing for 2 days. I have been so use to carrying my cam every where with me since Spring has arrived that now everyone else wants to use my cam and they do! So it goes missing on me when I go to retrieve it. I was quite distraught by this evening, because I missed 2 beautiful storms, birds nesting, our tadpoles changing to frogs and a little turtle that I picked up off the side of the road. I went back to take him home, but he was gone like a flash in the grass where I moved him for safety.
This weekend... Memorial weekend...brings the change of seasons as well as memories for those who served our country and still do...the weather here has turned humid and reminding us of the sultry hot steaming weather soon to come around the corner. People are flocking to the pools and BBQ smells are singing the air....it's good to come out of this winter. It was long and cold and time to shed off the winter coat that was layered on. :)
Here's Jordan being goofy and playing a song with her nose. She pleaded with me to post this. I played with the sound, but I'm guessing this is probably what goes on inside her little head. ;P
Ok, so this is what I get when I try to sneak a cat nap on a Sunday afternoon. I was uploading my videos when I discovered quite a few clips of the girls...I was perplexed on what they were trying to achieve, but when I reached the end of their performance I almost died laughing with tears in my eyes at the end. You MUST see! This one is dedicated to my Mom. ;)
Once upon a time, I met a stranger long ago when AOL was just a small company under a few hundred employees and before the world wide web was popular. This stranger, I later discovered... worked for DIA and by coincidental relations, he knew a relative of mine. To make a long story short we became good friends, so to speak, as one could for interacting online and I remember him telling me stories of back home, a small quaint town tucked in the deep woods of Missouri. He talked about the beauty of the Midwest and how one can go a short distance for hunting, hiking, camping, horse back riding, canoeing and yet have city life a moment away if one desired. But me being a West Coast girl, with sunny weather and latest trends...I thought how could one find anything interesting in the Mid West...how boring that would be to live there.
Well years later, I am here smack in the middle of America... making a life for myself with friends and family. I sometimes drift back to those late night conversations on how proud he spoke of his home life, and how he could just kick back and watch nature outside his cabin or go hiking on the Mississippi River...and now I find myself doing similar things and finding out that Missouri lives up to it's title the, "Show Me State". I am a traveler. I have traveled many places around the world, lived in many places from desolate to crowded spaces... and I have to say, after several years of living in the Mid West....Missouri brings you back to your American roots, your heritage, your nature...your true soul of who you really are. The weather either makes you or breaks you. The land that offers so much wild life and the people that go out of their way to provide warm hospitality that can match Southern charm any day...to the diverse cultures from French, German, Italian to others... add flavor to living here. I hope that by starting this blog, I can share with you with what I experience on my everyday living here in Missouri and I hope that you will walk down these passages and enjoy them as much as I live them.
